Jiayi Lu (b.1996, Jinan, China) works and lives in Shanghai. She graduated from the Tsinghua University with a bachelor's degree in Chinese painting in 2019, and graduated from Fine Art Drawing at Camberwell collage of arts in 2021.

Jiayi's paintings are concerned with an immersive feeling of nature, or "karma"(缘), which is an emotional connection or accidental encounter in a different time, space or place without commitment. And there is a gap between different things that can activate the energy field, which in turn reflects the quality of void.

The aesthetics of the work are inspired by traditional Chinese painting, in which the natural objects are depicted as random encounters and organisations of differing lines. Jiayi seeks the dual harmony of displacement and intimacy this implies. In such a context, she deems it possible to re-examine the order of relations that people take for granted and treats the individual as the sum of a special perception.

When entering the open construct of the canvas for depiction, a moment of sudden openness is created, where one's experience of space is in progress, enjoying both freedom and constraints in the process, either stopping or continuing to move forward. By applying a base layer and further depicting the shapes formed by the base layer, the boundaries are deepened and the visual experience is constantly renewed. Jiayi's paintings create an equilibrium for themselves through variation, taking on the phenomenon of the fleeting void and attempting to discover the spiritual power of intuition as well as feeling.
