Jiayi Lu (b.1996) born in Jinan, Shandong, currently lives and works in Shanghai.
Lu's artistic practice explores the spiritual transformations concealed within landscapes. Her paintings draw upon traditional Chinese landscape painting, wherein natural objects are depicted as disparate line formations that encounter one another randomly. This displacement process obscures the dual realities of historical context and present-day existence, yielding an aesthetic of uncertainty. Through layered brushstrokes, she integrates fluidity and transformation across distinct chromatic strata, allowing textures to converge on the canvas through similarity. This creates an ethereal, mist-like quality, pursuing a dual harmony of dispersion and intimacy within a dynamic momentum. Her work seeks to rediscover the residual emotional forces within our ever-shifting, fluid society.
